Parallel Tones

Aaron Alden’s sculptures create a synesthetic interaction of sound and light. “Parallel Tones” consists of 12 semi-transparent screens illuminated by glowing bands of light which shift in response to a generative musical score. From either end, the piece resembles a singular color field image, or a view into a smoke-filled room. Yet, viewers can divide the piece into fundamental elements by wandering around and through the layers. Additional works in adjacent rooms interact and evolve in sync as generative sequences trigger cascading shifts in visual and musical structures.
